Good fortune rides with you
The two minutes of your day that belong to nobody else
A hand-polished sandalwood horse, small enough to hide in a fist, that turns brushing your hair into something you actually look forward to.
01 · Meet the horse
A horse from the left, an elephant from the right
Turn it around and the carving changes its mind: a horse from one side, unmistakably an elephant from the other. The changing silhouette gives the small tool a distinctive character.
The body is the handle. The four legs are the teeth. Carved from a single piece of sandalwood, it reads as an object first and a tool second, which is exactly why it ends up on the nightstand instead of in a drawer.
In Chinese, a galloping horse is shorthand for good fortune arriving fast. Ours arrives at a walking pace, with a tassel.
02 · The wood
Warm in the hand before you have even used it
A-grade sandalwood, finished by hand until the grain lies flat and the surface takes on a soft satin sheen. No lacquer gloss, no plastic chill: wood meets your skin at your own temperature.
Every piece is cut from real timber, so colour and grain shift from one comb to the next. Yours will not look exactly like the photograph, and that is the point.
03 · The size
About 3.7 by 2.4 inches, sized for a pocket
Small enough to disappear into a handbag, a carry-on or a coat pocket, substantial enough at approximately 1.7 oz (48 g) to feel like a real object rather than a souvenir.
Thickness is approximately 0.6 in (1.5 cm), so it lies flat in a travel pouch without pressing shapes into whatever it is packed beside.
04 · In the hand
The grip tells you how to hold it
The curve of the animal's back sits under your fingers and the belly rests against your palm. There is only one comfortable way to hold it, so you never have to think about your grip while you use it.
The whole tool closes inside a fist, which means you can work the back of your head without twisting your wrist.
05 · The gesture
Four rounded teeth, one slow pass
Draw it from the hairline back toward the crown with light, even pressure. The teeth are wide-set and every tip is rounded, so it moves through hair without snagging and spreads the pressure across four points instead of raking one line.
Two minutes at the end of the day is enough. For comfort and relaxation: use on comfortable, intact skin and stop if anything feels uncomfortable.
06 · The tassel
Forest-green silk, a silver cap, one jade-tone bead
The tassel hangs from the saddle on a fine green cord. It is the detail that makes the comb worth hanging on a mirror edge or a drawer knob rather than shutting away.
It also gives you something to hook a finger through, so the comb does not slide out of a wet hand.
07 · The finish
Look closely at the teeth
Each leg tapers and ends in a domed tip, sanded smooth by hand. Run a thumb along them and there is no ridge, no tool mark, no sharp shoulder where the leg meets the body.
That hand-finishing is the entire difference between a carved ornament and something you are willing to press against your scalp.
08 · Where it lives
Too good-looking to put away
On a nightstand, beside a ceramic dish, on the edge of a desk during a long afternoon. Most scalp tools are made of shiny plastic and get hidden; this one earns its place in the open.
Which is the real reason it gets used daily instead of twice and forgotten.
09 · As a gift
An easy yes for someone who has everything
It is small, it is handmade, it carries a good-luck meaning, and there is a small joke built into it that the recipient will find on their own. Gift it to the friend who works too late or the traveller who packs light.
Your order includes one sandalwood horse comb with its green tassel attached.
How to use
- Use on dry or towel-dried hair.
- Draw slowly from the hairline toward the crown with light pressure.
- Work in small sections and keep the movement unhurried.
- Stop if the movement feels uncomfortable.
Care
Wipe with a dry or barely damp cloth. Do not soak it, put it in a dishwasher or leave it on a radiator; sandalwood can crack when it is saturated or dried too quickly.
